May 23: 9:00-11:30 – EMDR and Somatic Integration

Presenter: Nina Davey, LCPC, ATR-BC, PMH-C

Course Description

This training explores ways to integrate EMDR Therapy and Somatic Integration when working with complex trauma. Throughout this training, clinicians will recognize the importance of embodied awareness throughout the 8-phases of EMDR as this creates a safe and regulated state for clients to feel and sense their body. Clinicians will also identify a variety of somatic techniques when practicing EMDR therapy.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Recognize the value of integrating embodied experiences throughout the 8-phases of EMDR.

  2. Identify a variety of techniques to enhance somatic experiencing when creating a safe environment for clients to sense and feel their body throughout trauma processing.

  3. Describe the process of somatic integration and EMDR Therapy.

Outline

9:00 – Introduction

9:05 – Overview of EMDR Therapy and Somatic Integration

9:35 – Somatic Techniques for body awareness

10:35 – Experiential

11:00 – Somatic Techniques for Installation, Interweaves, and Future Planning

11:20 – Questions and Closing

11:30 – Training Concludes

May 23: 11:30-12:30 – Case Conceptualization for EMDR

Presenter: Denise Migliorini, LCSW-C

Course Description

This training offers ways to conceptualize complex trauma within the EMDR framework. EMDR therapists often encounter complexities throughout a client’s trauma history. This training serves to develop an explanation of case conceptualization within the context of EMDR by thoroughly identifying goal, organizing client’s presenting symptoms, and development appropriate treatment plan.

Learning Objectives

Participates will:

  1. Identify single and complex trauma symptoms through client goals, presenting symptoms, and past trauma history.

  2. Recognize the importance of conceptualizing complex trauma through an EMDR lens, limiting the disruption of therapy due to client’s on-going symptom presentation

  3. Demonstrate various ways to break down a complex case and conceptualize an appropriate treatment plan using EMDR therapy.

Outline

11:30 – Setting expectations and objectives

11:45 – What is case conceptualization?

12:00 – Case conceptualization within the EMDR framework

12:15 – Barriers to staying the course

Handouts

There are no handouts for this course.

May 24: 9:00-10:00am - Dissociation and EMDR: Strategies for Creating Safety and Stability

Presenter: Gina Rossetti, LCSW-C

Course Description

This training explores ways to work with dissociative symptoms throughout the 8-phases of EMDR therapy. During this training, clinicians will recognize the importance of safety and stability in work with dissociative clients and will review ways to effectively prepare clients for EMDR reprocessing. Clinicians will also identify a variety of techniques that can be used in EMDR therapy to support clients experiencing a range of dissociative symptoms.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Explain general issues associated with managing dissociative symptoms throughout EMDR therapy.

  2. Recognize the value of attunement, grounding skills, safety planning, and working with internal phobias throughout the 8-phases of EMDR.

  3. Identify a variety of techniques that support safety and stability when working with clients who experience dissociation throughout the preparation and trauma processing phases.

Outline

9:00 – Introduction

9:05 – Overview of dissociation and the challenges dissociative symptoms present in EMDR treatment

9:15 – Techniques to Manage Dissociation during Preparation and Assessment

9:35 – Techniques for Working with Dissociation during Reprocessing, Installation, and Closing

9:55 – Questions and Closing

Handouts

There are no handouts for this course.

May 24: 10:00-11:00am - Preparation Phase

Presenter: Stacy Stoddard, LCMFT

Course Description

This workshop will dive deep into one of the most important EMDR Phases – Preparation. After a quick review of the basics, we will explore the most-asked question in this Phase – “How do I know if my client is ready to start EMDR?” We will discuss this question theoretically, while also providing practical tools and ideas.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Recall, describe, and remember the importance of Phase 2

  2. Explain specific ways therapists can utilize this phase to prepare their clients

  3. Identify and improve use of preparation phase skills

Outline

10:00 – Review of Preparation: EMDR Phase 2

10:15 – Discussion of “How do I know if my client is ready to start?”

10:30 – Learn specific skills for assessing readiness

Handouts

There are no handouts for this course.

May 24: 11:00-12:30 - The Physiology of Client Defense States & “Parts” Based Interweaves

Presenter: Darla Sinclair, LCSW-C

Course Description

Expanding interweaves into the somatic realm means using the language of the body to “talk” with the body. In Phase 4, our clients’ bodies leave physiological “breadcrumbs,” leading the way to what is needed to help them reprocess their trauma more deeply and fully. This training teaches you, not only to “listen” in partnership with your clients, but to also create “Parts” Based Interweaves that both meet your clients’ bodies where they are and allow for co-evaluation of their effectiveness.

Learning Objectives

Participates will:

  1. Describe psychoeducation and resourcing for Phases 1 & 2

  2. Identify client physiological “Parts” in our brain’s defensive subsystem

  3. Demonstrate Ego State Based Interweaves matching what is physiologically “stuck” in the client’s body

  4. Summarize the effectiveness of Ego State Based Interweaves used in Phase 4

Outline

11:00 – Describe psychoeducation and resourcing for Phases 1 & 2

11:30 – Identify client physiological “Parts” in our brain’s defensive subsystem

11:50 – Demonstrate Ego State Based Interweaves matching what is physiologically “stuck” in the client’s body

12:20 – Summarize the effectiveness of Ego State Based Interweaves used in Phase 4

Handouts

There are no handouts for this course.
