Take a day to play!

Opportunity for play is critical to a child’s optimal development, but what happens when we become an adult? We often don’t take enough time to play. Research shows that play and having fun relieves stress, improves brain function, promotes cooperation and collaboration and encourages creative thinking and problem-solving (www.nifplay.org).

In this experiential 6-hour workshop, we will explore the importance of play and spontaneity for mental health. We will create opportunities for play and warm-up to our creativity with improvisational games, art activities, indoor and outdoor exploration, and reflection.

Professionally licensed therapists experienced in the areas of art and play will provide the safety and structure to allow you to:

  • Gain a sense of community by participating in activities designed to create familiarity and connection to others.

  • Awaken your imagination through guided imagery and creativity.

  • Tap into your natural curiosity while exploring nature.

  • Have silly-fun by playing group games such as "Speed Rabbit" and "ZipZapZoom!"

  • Tap into your creativity with opportunities to engage with various art and natural materials.

  • Tune into the joy of your body with intentional movement and nonverbal free play.

  • Reflect on your experience individually and with others through journaling, discussion, and art projects.

Since we will be physically moving and spending some time outdoors, wear your play-clothes! We recommend you wear comfortable clothing and shoes and dress in layers to be ready for varying temperatures in September. Please bring your own lunch and water bottle. Snacks, water, coffee and tea throughout the day.
